OUR MISSION

The citrus industry generates millions of tons of orange peel waste each year, with nearly half of every orange discarded during processing. In the EU alone, 2 million tons of peel waste accumulate annually, contributing to
environmental pollution and resource inefficiency. Our mission is to redefine orange peel as a valuable material by transforming it into innovative, sustainable alternatives for fashion, packaging, and interior design. Through material experimentation, we aim to reduce waste, promote circular design, and inspire new applications for organic byproducts. By harnessing the natural properties of orange peel, we seek to create eco-friendly solutions that merge sustainability with creativity.

OUR PRODUCT

Our project explores the versatility of orange peel as a raw material, transforming it into ten unique textures through innovative processes. Using natural additives like water, glycerin, and gelatin, we have developed soft, elastic, hard, manipulated, and 3D materials, each showcasing a different property of the peel. From supple, leather-like sheets to rigid, durable structures, our samples highlight the potential of orange peel in sustainable design. By manipulating its fibers, drying techniques, and chemical treatments, we have reimagined this common waste product into a resource for future material innovation.

INTERIOR, FASHION & GRAPHIC MATERIAL USAGE
This project focused on exploring how orange peel-based materials can be applied in interior design, fashion, and graphic/product design. As a multidisciplinary team of students from these three departments, our goal was to create a project that speaks to each of our fields, combining our different design approaches and interests into one unified concept.
